La terapia del color me permite suavizar en la mente, colores que a simple vista parecen más agresivos que otros. Esto es algo que me pasa con los barcos. No soy de pintar buques que tengan colores muy impactantes. Pero cuando ya los he pintado y los veo sobre el papel, experimento paz y reconciliación.
Color therapy allows me to soften in the mind, colors that at first glance seem more aggressive than others. This is something that happens to me with ships. I am not one to paint ships that have very impressive colors. But when I already painted them and I see them on paper, I experience peace and reconciliation.

Este año 2023 ampliaré mi catálogo de posters gracias a la estupenda acogida que están teniendo mis diseños. Aprender a escuchar las sugerencias de personas expertas en interiorismo y decoración, me permite ampliar mi visión y evolucionar. Una estupenda simbiosis.

Boceto previo
Este mes se entregan dos buques iguales (35×50) pero en pose diferente. Se trata del buque metanero de construcción japonesa Castillo de Caldelas, gemelo del Castillo de Mérida. Perteneciente a la Empresa Naviera Elcano (ENE). La ejecución de estas dos acuarelas se firmó hace unos meses para ser entregadas en marzo y serán los últimos encargos privados que realice. Mi trabajo está ahora más absorbido por el mundo editorial.
This month, two identical ships (35×50) are delivered but in a different pose. It is the Japanese-built LNG tanker Castillo de Caldelas, sistership of the Castillo de Mérida. She belongs to the Empresa Naviera Elcano (ENE). The execution of these two watercolors was signed a few months ago to be delivered in March and they will be the last private commissions that I do. My work is now more absorbed by the publishing world.

Estos días leí la biografía de Angelo Ravano. Fundador en 1969 de la naviera italiana Contship Italia S.p.a. Una de las compañías pioneras en el transporte marítimo por contenedor de Italia. Un tipo singular y poco común en el negocio marítimo. Muy del estilo de Andrea Merzario y su visión outsider sobre cómo dirigir una naviera.
El establishment marítimo de la época no pudo domar a estos dos hombres.
Su lema fue “Portiamo la nave fino al Vostro stabilimento”, llevamos el buque hasta su empresa.
These days I read the biography of Angelo Ravano. Founder in 1969 of the Italian shipping company Contship Italia S.p.a. One of the pioneer companies in maritime container transport in Italy. A singular and rare guy in the maritime business. Very much in the style of Andrea Merzario and his outsider vision on how to run a shipping company.
The maritime establishment of the time could not tame these two men.
His motto was “Portiamo la nave fino al Vostro stabilimento”, we take the ship to your business.
Diez años no son nada – Aniversario del blog
Lo anuncié hace unos días, este blog cumple diez años. Debería hacer un post especial con una foto bonita donde aparezca una tarta con una vela encendida o algo así, pero los que me conocéis ya sabéis que huyo del azúcar y de la bollería industrial.
Así que intentaré ser breve en esta publicación para no quitaros mucho tiempo. Solo lo justo para daros las gracias no solo a todos los que me seguís desde el principio de los tiempos sino también a los que se han unido recientemente.
También quiero dar las gracias a todas las personas que me apoyaron incondicionalmente para hacer esto realidad.
Justo hace diez años yo me encontraba de retiro en Peñíscola, en la mejor época del año, cuando no hay absolutamente nadie y pensé, haz un blog y empieza a enseñar tu trabajo. Durante todo este tiempo, el blog cambió de formato varias veces. Hubo épocas en las que escribía más. Reflexiones, experiencias o anotaciones sobre mi trabajo. En otras, os anunciaba mis novedades editoriales. Mis primeros calendarios. Mis primeros libros ilustrados. Fue muy agradable compartir con todos vosotros todos estos años. Estoy muy agradecido por el cariño que habéis manifestado siempre por mi trabajo.
Por otro lado, el blog me ha permitido conocer a otros colegas de WordPress que hacen un gran trabajo divulgativo y cultural. Soy un gran admirador de la gente que tiene algo que contar y lo comparte. Sobre todo la gente que no habla de sí misma y se concentra más en divulgar sus conocimientos en cualquiera de sus formatos. Literatura, poesía, arte, fotografía, lugares de interés, etc.
Por aquí seguirá El ilustrador de barcos, enseñando lo que hace. Dejaré las reflexiones y las ilustraciones no relacionadas con los temas marítimos, para otro espacio bloguero que abriré a lo largo del año. De todas formas, algunos ya sabéis que me muevo en otras redes y por supuesto en mi web de estudio.
Seguiremos viéndonos por aquí porque, diez años no son nada.

I announced it a few days ago, this blog is ten years old. I should make a special post with a nice photo showing a cake with a lit candle or something like that, but those of you who know me already know that I run away from sugar and industrial pastries.
So I’ll try to be brief in this post so as not to take up too much of your time. Just enough to say thank you not only to all of you who have been following me since the beginning of time but also to those who have joined recently.
I also want to thank all the people who supported me unconditionally to make this happen.
Exactly ten years ago I was in Peñíscola, at the best time of the year, when there is absolutely no one and I thought, make a blog and start showing your work. During all this time, the blog changed its format several times. There were times when I wrote more. Reflections, experiences or notes about my work. In others, I announced my editorial news. My first calendars. My first illustrated books. It was very nice to share with all of you all these years. I am very grateful for the love you have always shown for my work.
On the other hand, the blog has allowed me to meet other WordPress colleagues who do great informative and cultural work. I’m a big fan of people who have something to tell and share it. Especially people who don’t talk about themselves and concentrate more on disseminating their knowledge in any of their formats. Literature, poetry, art, photography, places of interest, etc.
The ship illustrator will continue here, showing what he does. I will leave the reflections and illustrations not related to maritime issues, for another blog space that I will open throughout the year. In any case, some of you already know that I work on other social media and of course on my official website.
We will continue to see each other around here because, ten years are nothing.
